3 Top tips for preparing your home for sale in the Autumn

In this short read, Next Move Homes Norfolk shares with you our 3 top tips in preparing your property for sale as we head into Autumn.

1.Consider how the exterior of your property will look to potential viewers on arrival.

Ensure the front door and the windows are clean and clutter free. If you have space, maybe consider planting some hanging baskets or feature pots either side of the door. If you get a nice dry day, get the lawn mowed, sweep up the leaves, clean down the patio and ensure summer items such as BBQs are stored away.

2. Try and brighten up and tidy up the hallway. Autumn can bring beautiful views and colours to our gardens and external spaces. It can also bring a lot of damp leaves and hallways can easily become cluttered with muddy wet footwear. Make sure the first thing the viewers see when you open the front door is a clear, clean, and spacious bright hallway. Tuck away the shoes, coats and school bags.

3. Ensure the property is light, bright and as warm as possible.

Poor lighting in a home can often be very off putting to potential buyers. As there are much fewer sunny and bright days, it is even more important to consider how you can bring in as much natural light as possible. Try and remove any items of furniture that block natural light in the room. As the darker evenings draw in, ensure all lights bulbs are working and if there are any dark corners in the room, consider putting a small table lamp or use candles to ensure the level of lighting is good. Think how warm and snug a potential buyer could feel when they walk in the door of your property so keep the central heating on a low heat until a potential viewer arrives, and if you have a wood burner or stove ensure it is lit.

Don’t delay tidying your property and instructing the agent to book the photographer. In our experience, the more attractive the photos, the more interest the property will gain and this will higher the potential offers you may receive.
